Sunday Serenade: Kai from Fiction State of Mind

Kai from Fiction State of Mind

Please help me welcome Kai from Fiction State of Mind!  She has a blog most worthy of being serenaded!  I love the sereneness of her blog and often feel like I’ve visited one of my favorite parks that is blooming with dogwood trees at this very moment.  Or – do you remember on the Karate Kid, Mr. Miyagi’s japanese garden that he devoted so much time and energy to? Well, Kai’s blog reminds me of Mr. Miyagi’s garden. And Kai, herself? Well, she’s a pretty interesting character to get to know too! I hope you enjoy ~

Kai from Fiction State of MindWhat do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?I enjoy Yoga, Visiting Indie book stores and thrift shops, and I love attending Convention like Comic Con In San Diego and the Dr Who Event I’m attending next month. How do you carve out time for blogging, reading, family and life?

Right now it’s not a problem. My family is all on the East Coast and I’m single. As a Massage therapist my schedule changes so if I end up with half a day or a whole day off I dive into reading, reviewing and setting up advance posts .
Describe your favorite place to read and why you love it so much.
That’s a hard one since i snatch ANY free time to read. I’d have to say at a Starbucks where I can have a Chai tea and here the buzz of other people around me, as long as its not too loud.
Can you share a “me-ism” you are (in)famous for saying, ie – “well butter my butt and call me a biscuit;” or my personal favorite from my mom – “if you’re confused about a situation/relationship, don’t do anything. Wait until you have peace about the decision.”
I always seem to say AAK! when Im frustrated. I picked that up from Bill the Cat from Bloom County

If you could speed-date any author who would it be? What questions would you ask?

Speed date in a platonic way hopefully? I’d definetly pick Neil Gaiman! I recently heard him speak at ALA Midwinter. He’s happily married but I’d still like to talk about bees, Doctor Who and Tea

If you had to spend the rest of your life on a Greyhound bus and could only bring along 5 books (that’s a lot to carry and hold onto in a small bus seat) what 5 books would you bring?

Hard Question!  The Graveyard by Neil Gaiman, The TPB Collection of The Watcheman by Alan Moore, Possession by A.S. Byatt, The Complete Works of Jane Austen,King Arthur and His Knights Anthology.

If your life could be summed up in a book or movie, what would it be – ie, Mission Impossible, The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, etc.

Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience by William Blake

Name 3 songs on your playlist right now. Do you listen to music while you read?

I’m not really a music person. I am enjoying the entire Scott Pilgrim soundtack on my Iphone though especially the song “I loved you for a thousand years” I can only listen to classical or chanting music while reading , I usually don’t have music on while reading though.

Name a quality you admire in others and a quality you like about yourself.

What I admire most is people who are truly comfortable in their skin no matter size, age , or life circumstances they are experiencing it’s one of my personal goals to acheive.
For my self i’d have to say how I will immerse myself in something that interests me or I’m passionate about. I would have never believed last year that I would have a blog and would be writing things that the whole world could read. I found courage and strength from other bloggers to try it and now have no plans of stopping!
Name 3 things on your bucket list. (things to accomplish in your lifetime)
Id like to have a month vacation in England, Paris, Ireland.
Id like to study massage in a foreign country like Japan or Tokyo
Become a Yoga or Massage teacher
I can’t believe someone remembers Bloom County!!! I love Opus and Bill the Cat!  And Possession – wow, that was a heavy book to read, but my book club accomplished it!  Kudos to you, Kai, for Possession being a favorite!  Thank you Kai for giving me such a gracious interview and allowing us to serenade you today!  Enjoy your Sunday!
