About Me

headshotWelcome to The Novel Life ~ where books and life collide.

These ‘about me’ pages are always so hard to write! There’s so many things to consider when creating one of these pages ~ should I write in first person or third person? Tell you about the time I worked in a bookstore? volunteered at the library? visited the Moon? or do I stick to basics of who? what? where?

If you’re like me and read lots of blogs, you’ve probably read quite a few of these ‘about me’ pages. Some are hilarious and make me wish I could write like that, some are sad with a lifetime of hurt that prompted the starting of the blog and some are written in such a way that I wish we were friends IRL as well as online. My goal for this page is exactly that – let’s be friends, share our love of reading and all things bookish and if we ever meet in real life, we’ve got a jumpstart on things to talk about šŸ˜‰

Six Things to Know About Me

  1. Book devourer/inhaler and champion. Give me 5 minutes, and I will recommend at least 1 book for whatever topic we are discussing šŸ˜‰
  2. I’m an INFP: introverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving which inevitably also makes me a HSP – highly sensitive person. Quiet by Susan Cain is probably my most recommended book to fellow introverts.
  3. I’ve only recently found the Enneagram Institute and discovered I’m a Peacemaker/Helper with a dash of the Individualist and Investigator thrown in for good measure!
  4. Mom to 3 mostly adult {24, 22, 20} children. YaYa to one 5 year old Little Monkey and one 8 year old chosen by LOVE.
  5. I survived a horrific auto accident and traumatic brain injury at 18 that left me with chronic migraines. Then at 28 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Then at 44 a bleeding ulcer almost finishes me off. Fortunately, a lot of blood donations and some incredible nurses and doctors have kept me going. If you are a blood or blood product donor, please know your gift of life is truly that – I would not be alive and going strong today without the blood and immunoglobulin treatments. Thank you. It feels so inadequate saying ‘thank you’ as your gift has kept me alive. Please know it is incredibly heartfelt and sincere.
  6. I can be underestimated at times, but not for long!

The sweet and silly grandsons!

Five of My Favorite Books of All-Time

  1. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
  2. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
  3. 11-22-63 by Stephen King
  4. Glimpses of Grace by Madeline L’Engle
  5. The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber

I love to read, talk about books and my biggest fantasy is to live over *my* indie bookstore ~ how very cool would that be?!? Traveling anywhere and everywhere is another passion of mine ~ finding adventure around every corner and with each new acquaintance brings me more alive. I am a somewhat nomad, living part-time in the North Georgia Mountains and part-time in the beautiful desert of Arizona of which I also love to write about ~ it is a small town ~ quaint, unique and full of history.

I welcome you to pull up a chair, sit back and stay awhile. I’d love the company and the conversation!
